Kimberley - A man drowned on Tuesday near Keimoes in the Northern Cape when his tractor left the road and landed in the Orange River, police said.
Superintendent Hendrik Swart said on Wednesday that Raymond Mostert, 28, from Farmo Island near Keimoes was driving a tractor and trailer loaded with lucerne.
The tractor and trailer left the road as he was crossing a single river bridge. It is thought that Mostert leapt from the tractor as it left the bridge, but then jumped into the river in an attempt to save the lucerne.
Divers had been searching since Tuesday but by Wednesday afternoon had not found a body, Swart said.
