Man drowns while getting ball

Johannesburg - The body of a 23-year old man has been found after he drowned at Inanda Dam, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Saturday.

"Donovan Hall (from Pinetown)... swum quite deep into the dam and we suspect he got tired and that's how he drowned," said police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker.

On Friday evening the National Sea Rescue Institute and police responded to an emergency call at the dam where the man had mysteriously disappeared below the dam's surface.

According to friends of the missing man he had apparently kicked a ball into the water and had then swum into the water to retrieve it when he appeared to get into difficulty before disappearing.

Police search and rescue services, using scuba divers, continued with the search on Saturday until they retrieved the body.
