Man escapes 9 bullets in hijacking

2012-06-05 17:33

Johannesburg - A 28-year-old man escaped unharmed after his car was shot at nine times during an attempted hijacking in Glenvista on Tuesday morning, Gauteng police said.

"When he tried to get out of his yard in his car, four men pointed guns at him," said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele.

A shootout ensued between the hijackers and victim before the gunmen sped off in another vehicle.

Patrolling police later found a BMW silver grey car abandoned in an open space in Snake Park in which they found a body of a man with a bullet wound in the chest.

Makhubele said the vehicle was used as the getaway car in the attempted hijacking. Investigations revealed that it was reported stolen in Lenasia.

Police were looking for three other men in a case of attempted murder and hijacking.

The Police might not have to go to too much trouble to find the others. The worst thugs and robbers are some of our politicians. Start looking there. They'r robbing the population everday in all sorts of ways. Perhaps some of them have just changed their modus operandi.

  • George - 2012-06-05 18:06

So glad he survived and so sad so many have not. The government MUST protect its citizens lives. That before anything else is its duty. If they can't please make way for those that can. Crime must stop now before it polarizes our society completely. Keep politics out of SAPS.

  • frans.vanderpoll - 2012-06-05 18:11

I'm sure I shouldn't say this but I just can't help myself - not bad shooting for a civilian. The cops would probably have missed all.

The universe was watching out for your buddy, he is really lucky to be alive. So happy for you and all his loved ones. Just reminds you how important the people in your life are.

      Jessica - 2012-06-05 19:50

Oh and @isabel get over yourself. Just because you don't necessarily share his beliefs doesn't give you the right to get up in his face about it. Given the circumstances, I think he has the right to believe in miracles. Stop being such a pain.

      Isabel - 2012-06-05 19:40

The same god that let it happen in the first place?

      jannie.beirowski - 2012-06-05 19:54

@Isabel. God did have to let it happen. Can you suggest any other way of letting the flag drop on the one that was killed? A car crash? A murder? His time ran out so he had to go.

      alansmartSnr - 2012-06-05 21:35

..But for the Grace of God..It could have been you or I who either escaped or took the bullet

  • hc12345 - 2012-06-05 19:40

I wonder if they arrested him?

  • thozi - 2012-06-05 19:42

The report left out the part where the intended victim has been "arrested and held on suspicion of murder". Or is it different this time... the right to defend oneself being recognised at long last?

      buwaz - 2012-06-05 19:57

Or u serious ohhh no hey I'm speechless what was the victim supose to do. Be hijacked or killed hey.

      thozi - 2012-06-05 20:10

@buwaz - are you for real? No don't reply... just forget it.

      pws69 - 2012-06-06 08:04

@buwaz, it has happened more time than you think that the victim is arrested. It almost happened to a friend of mine.

  • JAbu.R15 - 2012-06-05 19:56

HAi as much as I like news24.com mara their stories sometimes dont make sense or are incomplete. u just have to fill in teh gaps. the man escapes unharmed after his car was shot at, that was only in the heading then as you read content no reference to that is shown except for the shootout, then the body found, is it alive or dead? if four people are already pointing a guy at the luckyman, how did he reach for his to shoot at the criminals? hai theres more to the story than this reporting we are getting here.

      Barefoot - 2012-06-06 06:38

Yeah a lot missing, but as a general rule 'a body was found' it means a the person is dead.

  • Olusunne - 2012-06-05 20:04

i was stoped by police car,wen u luk at this guy face they were luking lik hobo.legal businees is better than illegal deal.

  • charmaine.c.williams - 2012-06-07 11:20

The crux of this matter is that these 4 guys have been terrorising our neigbourhood in the Southern suburbs since the beginning of this year. They usually travel in convoy, it is either a black Audi, black BMW, white GTI or silver Mercedes Benz and obviously are always armed. They have been on a daily basis violently robbing Glenvista, Bassonia, Meyersdal and Mulbarton residents, moms coming back from dropping kids at school. Every day I receive a SMS from my security company on this same group of guys' actions in my area. Why are these guys not caught yet since they are robbing us daily here. They keep changing their number plates, but have been caught on camera so many times but still keep coming back daily and doing the same thing?!?! We all keep in touch within the neighbourhood but these guys are still on the loose. Never mind there have been 3 dog poisining's in my area in 2 weeks. These guys escaped to Soweto, do people not have eyes or ears there??? My domestic told me that in the township they would have been caught long ago because they get together and find the idiots doing these things, and honestly, she said the white people just do nothing? Now I ask you with tears in my eyes, what do we do? We are left with 3 choices, remain behind and be submissive, remain behind and fight back or leave the country you were born in to go to a sh#t hole in some other country??!! Bring back the Death Penalty and see how crime will dwindle!! It worked in the past, why not now?
