Johannesburg - Several preliminary charges of rape, indecent assault and possession of child pornography were put to a Muldersdrift man when he made his first appearance at the Krugersdorp magistrate's court on Monday.
The man, who may not be named until he has pleaded to the charges, was arrested at his home in the farming district northwest of Johannesburg on Friday after a police investigation.
He is alleged to have been found in possession of pornography featuring children.
His partner was also taken in for questioning, but she was later released.
He made a brief appearance on Monday and will return to the court for his bail application on Friday, control prosecutor Elivera du Plooy told Sapa.
He will remain in custody and the State is expected to oppose bail.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Lungelo Dlamini said the children featured in the films had not yet been identified but if it was found their parents had been involved, their parents would also be arrested.
