Johannesburg - A man burnt to death after his RDP house caught fire on Monday in Tsakane in Langaville, the Ekurhuleni municipality said.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find the two-roomed house burned to the ground and the body of the 54-year-old man lying outside, the municipality said in a statement.
The man had suffered burns over his entire body.

A neighbour noticed smoke billowing out of the house's windows and doors and attempted to rescue the man inside.

He successfully pulled the man out of the burning house but he was already dead.

The neighbour also suffered smoke inhalation for his efforts and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. Police have opened an inquest docket.
