Man falls down funnel, survives
Johannesburg - A man was critically injured in an industrial accident at a factory in Germiston on the East Rand on Monday, paramedics said.
Netcare911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks said the worker had been standing at the opening of a four-metre high funnel when he fell into it.
He "came to an abrupt halt at the bottom as the structure narrowed".
When medics entered the factory they found the critically injured man lying on the floor.
He was removed from the funnel by co-workers having sustained serious head trauma. Advanced life support paramedics intubated the man and placed him on a manual ventilator.
Wicks said the man was transported by ambulance to the Netcare Union Hospital for treatment.
