Man feared drowned in Cape Town

2012-04-16 18:45
Johannesburg - A building contractor who went swimming off the rocks at Bantry Bay, in Cape Town, on Monday is feared drowned, said the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI).

"His clothing and builder's helmet were left on the shore, but there was no sign of the man and eye-witnesses reported seeing him disappear in the surf while swimming," said NSRI Bakoven station commander Bruce Davidson.

The 32-year-old man from KwaZulu-Natal was believed to be a contractor working on a building site in the area.

There was no sign of the man during an extensive sea and shore search.

"A police dive team will continue with an ongoing search operation," said Davidson.
