Man fighting for life after Pretoria blast

2012-07-18 15:23

Pretoria - A man is fighting for his life after he was injured in an explosion at a factory in Waltloo, Pretoria on Wednesday.

Netcare911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks said it appears the man was welding sheet metal when a flame came into contact with a drum containing a flammable solvent.

“The drum exploded and caused a fire in the factory. The force of the explosion threw the man backwards,” Wicks said.

The man sustained burn wounds to 90% of his body. Paramedics called for assistance from a trauma team aboard the Netcare1 Aeromedical helicopter and airlifted the man to Milpark Hospital.

It would help if the report mention if it is 1st, 2nd or 3rd degree burns.

Bad attention to safety measures. Could have been avoided like most accidents :-( May God have mercy on him.
