Johannesburg - Three people were killed and two others were critically injured when a car rolled on the Beyers Naude Drive Bridge over the N14 in Muldersdrift, northwest of Johannesburg, paramedics said on Sunday.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said information suggested that the driver lost control of the car which overturned and rolled repeatedly on the bridge on Saturday night.
"A man was flung from the wreckage as it rolled and was thrown off the bridge and onto the N14 where he was struck by a car," said Wicks.
"Paramedics arrived at the scene to find two occupants of the crumpled vehicle, along with the man who had been ejected when it rolled, to have died prior to their arrival."
Wicks said a critically injured man was stabilised by paramedics, and once extricated from the wreckage was airlifted to hospital.
Another injured man was also transported to hospital, he said.
