Bloemfontein - A Harrismith man was attacked by seven men who assaulted him, robbed him and left him stark naked in a field near his home over the weekend.

Richard Dovey, 37, had to be taken to hospital after the ordeal but was not seriously injured, reported Volksblad.

His girlfriend, Melanie Krouse, said friends had dropped Dovey off at the farm gate where the two of them were renting a house.

A minibus taxi stopped behind him and seven men got out, yelling at Dovey: “Hey you, come here, we are going to kill you!”

Four of the men picked him up by his legs and arms and threw him repeatedly into the air. They kicked and punched him and also hit him on the head with an object.

They took his clothes, cellphone and wallet. People passing by found him and took him to hospital.

Krouse said she would go to the police to make a statement on Dovey’s behalf.
