Johannesburg - A farmer accused of beating up three traffic officers in Ventersdorp was released on R3 000 bail on Tuesday, the North West public safety department said.
Karen Petrus Coetzer, 52, would be back in the Ventersdorp Magistrate's Court on 11 September, spokesperson Lesolang Simon Mmope said in a statement.
"He was released on conditions such as to report to the nearest police station on two occasions in a week, and not to intimidate the concerned victims directly or indirectly," he said.
Coetzer allegedly attacked three female officers at a roadblock on the R30 between Ventersdorp and Derby on Monday.
This was after it was established that his vehicle's licence disc had expired in 2007.
He allegedly punched the officers and drove off shortly after was asked to get out of his car to receive his traffic fine slip.
He was caught about 1km away.
He was facing charges of assault to cause grievous bodily harm and failure to furnish information to traffic officers.
