Johannesburg - A 51-year-old man has been arrested, North Rand police say, after they found him carrying a woman's torso in a bag.
Superintendent Eugene Opperman said police saw the man walking across a field with the bag in Motsu Section, Tembisa.
The officers thought he was carrying stolen goods so they stopped him to search the bag.
Opperman said: "The officers jumped back in horror when they opened the bag and found the torso of a woman. Her head, arms and legs were missing," he said.
The man allegedly told police during questioning he fatally stabbed the 46-year-old woman on Saturday night after they had had an argument in their Seotlane section shack.
The man told them he wanted to dispose of the body, but it was too heavy for him to carry. He cut off her head and limbs.
The woman's head and hands were found in a small ditch in Seotlane section. Parts of the legs were hidden in a drainage system near Motheong section.
The other parts of the legs were found in the man's home.
The man is due to appear in Kempton Park magistrate's court on Tuesday.
