Johannesburg - A man handed himself to police on Thursday after stabbing a nurse at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Gauteng police said.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele said the 38-year-old man admitted to stabbing his girlfriend, a nurse, last month.

"The man said he followed his girlfriend into the hospital before stabbing her several times in one of the wards."

The woman, 32, was still in a critical condition. The man was expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Friday on a charge of attempted murder.

People in your life are not possessions. You own your happiness. This story is symptomatic of many of South Africa's ills. Everyone's waiting for someone else to make them happy and pushing the blame for their actions onto someone else.

Out of all people you stab a woman,a Nurse someone who holds a special scarce position in the community. That is cowardice,\r\nYou r not brave enough

There's plenty of Nurses where I come from. Infact every school drop out that I know turns out to be a nurse, no wonder they treat poeple so badly in our hospitals, especially Public hospitals. They are only scarce in a sense that, there's only a handful of them dedicated to their proffession. Nevertheless, I wish this woman a speedy recovery, hopefully she's one of the remaining few good nurses. As for the coward who stab her, may he be locked in a very dark place with no light and ventilation for the rest of his remaining days.

He admitted what he did. He felt guilty for it and handed himself in for it. He is indeed brave. A coward would have killed, then ran away.
