Man hangs himself in prison

Mafikeng - A 26-year-old male prisoner committed suicide in his cell in Rooigrond Medium B prison outside Mafikeng in North West on Friday, police said.
Captain Sabata Mokgwaabone said the man, who was sentenced last year to 90 years for rape, robbery, murder, kidnapping and a daring escape from custody, hanged himself with his bed linen.
"The man's body was found hanging inside his Maximum B cell at 04:45 on Friday morning. Prison officials immediately reported the matter to police and investigations are continuing," Mokgwaabone said.
He could however not speculate on why the man could have killed himself, saying police were still investigating.
