Man held after KZN shooting

2012-07-30 18:59
Johannesburg - Three men fired at a police patrol in Port Shepstone in the early hours of Monday, KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said.

He said a patrol of the police's dog unit in Port Shepstone was approaching a parked car when a man jumped from the driver's seat.

He fired at the police as he ran into a bush.

A second man who fled from the rear of the vehicle fired at police with an AK-47 assault rifle.

Both men disappeared. A police dog caught a third man as he tried to run away. The man was arrested.

Police had since established that the three came from Klaarwater, near Pinetown.

Zwane said police were trying to determine if the three had been involved in other crimes.
