Johannesburg - A man was arrested on Thursday afternoon after he was caught manufacturing drugs in Brackendowns, Alberton, Gauteng police said.
"Our officer who is staying in the area was driving around when he smelt a weird smell. He suspected that there was something wrong in a house there," Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.
He called for a back-up. Police entered the house and found three men manufacturing Cat (methcathinone). Two managed to escape. A Nigerian, in his 40s, was arrested.
Police confiscated drug-making equipment that included chemicals and two computers. Drugs worth an estimated R500 000 on the street were seized.
The man would appear in the Alberton Magistrate's Court soon on a charge of dealing in drugs.
