Johannesburg - A man was arrested for reporting a hijacking that did not take place, East Rand police said on Monday.
Spokesperson Captain Manaka Raphulu said a 44-year-old man told police at Alberton police station on Sunday that a company car he was driving was hijacked in Voortrekker Road.
"He was called in with his boss and after intense questioning police established that the man was lying."
Raphulu said the man then admitted that he had lied and said he gave the car to a Nigerian man in exchange for drugs.
The white Ford Bantam was recovered at a parking bay in Rosettenville after police requested assistance from a tracker company.
Raphulu said a court date had not yet been set.
