Port Alfred - A man accused of bludgeoning a former Springbok athlete was expected in court on Monday, Eastern Cape police said.
The 28-year-old would appear in connection with the murder of Louie Zimmerman, 75, in the Port Alfred Magistrate's Court, Captain Mali Govender said on Sunday.
"We worked around the clock ... and looked into information, which led to his arrest on Thursday."
Zimmerman, who was awarded national colours for netball and athletics, and coached marathon runners, was bludgeoned with "a hard object" in her garden on Wednesday. A bicycle, pair of running shoes and a handbag were stolen. She described her assailant to police before she died on arrival at hospital.
The Sunday Times reported her memorial service would be held on Monday.
