Durban - A man has been arrested for the murder of National Freedom Party supporter Thamsanqa Mnyango, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Monday.

The 32-year-old man was taken into custody on Friday in Umlazi, south of Durban, Captain Thulani Zwane said.

Mnyango was shot in July. The motive for the murder was unknown.

"Detectives have been following leads since Mnyango's body was found in Umlazi's hostel with two gunshot wounds in the head," Zwane said.

The man had been charged with murder and would appear in the Umlazi Magistrate's Court on Monday afternoon, he said.
