Man held for rape in Kagiso

Johannesburg - A 26-year-old man was arrested in Kagiso near Krugersdorp on Saturday, for rape, police said.

Warrant Officer Solly Sibiya said the man allegedly raped a 69-year-old woman after breaking in her house at 03:30.

The man armed with a steel bar demanded money and ordered the woman not to scream.

"The complainant then gave the suspect a R100 note. The suspect then ordered the complainant to neither scream nor leave her bedroom. He further ordered her to lie on the bed and later raped her."

The man allegedly held a steel bar against the complainant’s neck while raping her.

After he had left the woman woke her son who was sleeping in an outside room.

The son immediately rushed to the street and noticed someone going down the street and quickly followed him.

"After stopping the suspect, he took him back to the scene of crime where the complainant positively identified him as her attacker."

The matter was reported to the police and the man was arrested.
