Johannesburg - A man was arrested in connection with raping his wife in the Komkhulu informal settlement near Butterworth, Eastern Cape police said.

The 57-year-old man was arrested after his wife, 50, accused him of raping her, Captain Jackson Manatha said.

"The man dragged his wife to his bed on Monday and had sex with her against her will. This happened again on Tuesday morning," he said.

After being raped twice by her husband the woman went to the local police station.

The man was expected to appear in the Centane Magistrate's Court soon.

A wife is not a possession you do what you like this. That is something that this patriarchal society has yet to learn!

such things are happening almost everyday but due to screwed beliefs in our cultures, they beings swept under the carpet while the victimisers keep on repeating. I bet if she had reported this to the relatives she would have been silenced...a big high 5 to her for standing firm for her rights...no body owns her.

@Bibi...I agree with you on virtually everything you are saying, particularly, on the last part of your comment.Yes, who knows what the poor children had to witness.Probably, they had to witness their paps being tossed to and fro by their mama who if she doesn't have things her way threatens to call the police and press charges against him.

Since this happened in the EC, I bet this woman is xhosa... Xhosa women r deceitful nd very manipulative, believe me I have experienced their carniving ways. Not in the form of being accused of rape, but I know she's lying. She's slandering her husbands name for her agenda.. Nxa

There is no mention of them even having children. He should lay a charge of rape against her.

I guess that old 57 year old man got some Rhino horn from them too, if i am not mistaken 50+ is considered Elder people yet they brand him now as a rapist due to his Wife legality could not defend herself against a man of 7 years older then her, i am sorry it takes to to Tango i think she just wanted to make a scene and destroyed his life in the process.

The true facts of this case will we never know, so I wont speculate as to the truthfulness of this version of events. For the record; If a man feels that his wife is neglecting her conjugal duties -which form part of the benefits of marriage- he is free to file for divorce as it is in itself prima facie proof of an irretrievable breakdown of the marriage and as such it is a valid ground for divorce. So if you feel entitled to intercourse with your wife, then think again the only remedy is divorce -or the threat thereof-, and not forcing yourself upon her, no-one has such a right.... So to all men who harbour such a mistaken belief please rather use the law to your favour instead of breaking it! We cannot still harbour such barbaric tendencies, this includes domestic violence of any nature, it is simply not acceptable in an open and democratic society.

Well put! Thank you on behalf of rape victims for showing that there are men who think with their brain too!

I feel for the poor man, the first thing he must do when he gets out is look for a wife, one he won't have to rape.

      patricmthombeni - 2012-03-21 22:22

Well, he will probably come back from jail when he is 72. The 15 years rape sentence, plus (dragging into bed) thatis aggrevating circumstance and you can add another 10 years. Will he still be in the market?.
