Johannesburg - A man has been arrested for dismantling a suspected stolen car in Soweto, Gauteng police said on Friday.

Police went out to the area after receiving information that two people were removing parts from the car, said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

One suspect was shot in the foot by police after he tried to attack them with an axe.

"His accomplice managed to run away, police are searching for him," said Makhubela.

The injured 25-year-old was taken to hospital under police guard.

He is due to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court soon.

Why didn't the cop shoot him in the head??? It would clearly be self defence and a 9mm round is way cheaper than the costs to process a criminal.
