Johannesburg - A 26-year-old man was arrested for being in possession of an assortment of stolen items in Protea Glen on Friday, Johannesburg metro police said.

Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the man was wanted for murder in Mpumalanga.

Police received a tip-off and found the man in a house.

In his possession were an unlicenced firearm, two false number plates, a hijacked Volkswagon Polo, car keys belonging to six different cars, and a police uniform.

"He also wanted to bribe the officers by offering them R50 000 each to let him go," said Minnaar.

Investigations were continuing.
