Ventersburg - A man who was hijacked in Port Elizabeth on Sunday was finally rescued at a road block in Ventersburg on Tuesday morning, police said.
Taxi driver Rudolf Louw was allegedly hijacked by three young people, who boarded his taxi at a garage in Port Elizabeth and threatened him with a knife.
Police spokesperson Inspector Stephen Thakeng said Louw was forced into the back seat and robbed of his cellphone, watch, and R600 in cash. The hijackers then started to drive to Johannesburg, taking Louw with them.
They were apprehended when they were stopped at a roadblock near Ventersburg in the Free State.
Thakeng said the driver could not produce a licence. As the occupants were being interrogated Louw shouted to police that he had been hijacked.
The three suspects, who were between 16 and 23-years-old, were arrested, said Thakeng.
