Pretoria - A 36-year-old man appeared in the Pretoria magistrate's court on Thursday in connection with a series of murders near Samrand Avenue in Centurion, said the office of the national police commissioner.
Director Sally de Beer said: Richard Jabulani Nyauza was arrested on Tuesday in his Olievenhoutbosch house.
"An item belonging to a woman whose body was found in Centurion last Friday, was discovered on his premises."
The case was postponed to next Thursday for further investigations. Nyauza remained in custody.
De Beer said: "Nyauza became a suspect after detectives, following up different pieces of evidence, became convinced that he could be linked to certain offences."
She said it was anticipated that further charges could be added.
In the latest discovery last Friday, the body of a woman was found near Samrand Quarry. Police did not know the exact cause of her death.
Multiple murders committed
According to reports, the woman was the tenth victim found in the area since January.
A special team was set up to investigate the possibility that one man was linked to a murder committed in 2002 and the multiple murders committed between January and September 2006 in Samrand.
The team consisted of police officials from the investigative psychology unit, the serious and violent crimes unit and detectives from the Wierda Bridge police station.
