Johannesburg - A man accused of murdering his girlfriend appeared in the Fraserburg Magistrate's Court on Monday morning, Northern Cape police said.

Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the body of Jerenica Jacobs, 20, was found on September 9, 2015 at about 15:00, apparently by a resident who was gathering wood between the Williston and Uitsig neighbourhoods of Fraserburg.

"The Station Commander, Captain CJ Prins accompanied the woman in his private vehicle back to the crime scene. Jacobs [had] sustained multiple bodily injuries. She was last seen by her family on September 5, 2015."

During the investigation, Prins received information that Jacobs was last seen walking in that direction allegedly with her boyfriend, Adam Lucas. Lucas was later arrested and charged for Jacobs's murder.

The case was remanded to September 29 for a formal bail application, with Lucas kept in custody.
