Man in stolen bakkie drives into cop
Johannesburg - A 41-year-old Johannesburg metro police officer was injured when she was run down by a man driving a stolen bakkie at a roadblock on Monday, a spokesperson said.
"She is in a serious, but stable, condition in hospital," said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.
He said the man driving the stolen bakkie failed to stop at a roadblock on the Soweto highway, hitting the officer in the process.
"He then collided with a stationary vehicle near the N1, jumped out of the car and tried to run away. Officers arrested him at nearby houses."
Minnaar said the man allegedly stole the bakkie in Booysens.
"He will be charged with failing to stop at the scene of accident, possession of a suspected stolen car as well as failing to stop for officers in uniform," he said.
