Man jailed for raping students

Johannesburg - A man who raped and robbed two French students in Frankfort in the eastern Free State was on Monday sentenced to 30 years in prison, police said.
Sergeant Philani Mvuna said 37-year old Daniel "Ntuli" Mthimunye was sentenced on Monday in the Frankfort Regional Court for the incident which happened on December 5 2005.
Mthimunye, along with two alleged accomplices, abducted, raped and later dumped two Stellenbosch university students, aged 19 and 20, in a veld after tying them with ropes to bushes.
The students were camping along the Wilge River in Frankfort at the time.
Mvuna said the other two accused were in custody waiting to appear in court on similar charges.
"It is alleged that the suspects fled the scene (in) the victims' vehicle which they later abandoned after crashing it," said Mvuna.
Mthimunye was arrested on August 29 2006. He pleaded guilty to the charges of rape and robbery.
