Johannesburg - Two men were due to appear in the Benoni Magistrate's Court on Monday after allegedly assaulting and kidnapping a motorist in an apparent road rage incident, said East Rand police.
Constable Joshua Dladhla said the 48-year-old motorist was assaulted and kidnapped in Benoni after his Mercedes-Benz crashed into a Volkswagen Golf along Great North road on Friday night.
"The driver of the Golf and his friend approached the other man and assaulted him in what appeared to be a road rage incident. The two then forced the man into the boot of their Golf and drove off," said Dladhla.
A passenger in the Mercedes managed to take down the registration number of the Golf. On Saturday two men phoned the man's wife demanding money for repairs to their car.
"They threatened the man's wife that if she did not do as she was told, they were going to kill her husband," he said.
Following police information two men, both aged 23, were arrested at a house in Tembisa on Saturday.
"They told police they had taken the man to a hospital in Kempton Park," said Dhladhla.
The two face charges of kidnapping and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
