Man killed, 17 injured as taxi overturns on KZN highway

Johannesburg - A man has died and 17 others have been injured after a taxi they were travelling in overturned on the N2 South near the Umhlanga offramp in KwaZulu-Natal, paramedics said on Thursday.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said the man died at the scene of the accident, which took place around 17:00, while the injured patients had to be removed from the taxi's twisted frame. The injured have been transported to nearby hospitals.

Upon the paramedics' arrival on the scene, only one lane of the highway was open as the the taxi was obstructing traffic flow.

The exact cause of the accident was still unclear.
