Johannesburg - A man was shot dead after stabbing two security guards at the residence of Rehana Moosajee, a councillor responsible for Johannesburg transport, Gauteng police said on Saturday.

Spokeswoman Constable Khaphathe Mashudu said the man, 35, was urinating in the park opposite Moosajee's house on Friday evening.

Two security guards approached him in a bid to stop what he was doing.

An argument ensued and the man pulled out a knife, stabbed one of them in the stomach, ripping it open, and stabbed the other in the shoulder.

"He was taken to hospital in a serious condition," she said.

The guard with the stabbed stomach shot the man dead.

She said police opened an inquest docket for the death of the man and two attempted murder cases for the stabbing of the security guards.

The security guards were guarding Moosajee's home at the time of the incident.
