Johannesburg - A man who allegedly attempted to rob a policeman was shot dead during a shoot-out in Hillbrow, Johannesburg police said on Friday.
Captain Cheryl Engelbrecht said the policeman was allegedly attacked and robbed by two armed men at the corner of Claim and Pretoria Streets in Hillbrow on Thursday.
A shoot-out followed and one of the men was shot. He died on the scene. The other man is still at large.
Meanwhile, an alleged hijacker was shot and killed in Bramley, Engelbrecht said.
She said a man was approached at his home on Wednesday by two armed men who had been driving a Blue Conquest. They apparently tried to hijack him.
The man managed to shoot at the two, allegedly killing one of them.
The other man fled the scene on foot leaving the Conquest behind.
Police found that the car had been stolen from Sandringham in January, said Engelbrecht.
The man has not been arrested and police are investigating a case of murder.
