Durban - A man was killed in an accident involving a truck on the N3 near Shongweni, KwaZulu-Natal, on Monday morning, paramedics said.

The accident happened in the Durban-bound lane around 05:45, Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said.

One man was declared dead on the scene, another was critically injured and a third was seriously injured.

The cause of the accident was unclear.

The Durban-bound lane of the highway was severely obstructed by the accident debris.

"Paramedics and the emergency services personnel are now busy working at the scene of a secondary accident on the N3 west bound where a secondary accident has taken place," Botha said.

Details of the second accident were not immediately available.
