Pretoria - A man committed suicide at the main campus of the University of Pretoria on Wednesday, Gauteng police confirmed.

Eyewitness News said the man was a student but neither the police nor the university would confirm to News24 if he was a student or a faculty member.

The man jumped from the roof of the humanities building on the university’s main campus, reported EWN.

The police’s Warrant Officer Dave Miller told News24 that an inquest docket had been opened.

The university said it was offering trauma counselling to all affected students and staff.

The incident comes a day after a security guard jumped from the top floor of the Menlyn Park shopping centre.
