Johannesburg - A 30-year-old man shot dead his girlfriend, injured his brother and tried to kill the village headman before killing himself, said Mpumalanga police on Monday.
Superintendent Abie Khoabane said that Vusi Mathebula shot dead his 25-year-old girlfriend during an argument at their home in Dondonald near Ermelo on Friday evening.
"During the argument, he took out a gun and shot her dead. When his 21-year-old brother tried to intervene, he shot and injured him in the leg," said Khoabane.
The local headman was called to the house to help and tried to intervene.
"Once he got to the house to see what going on, the man tried to shoot him, but the gun jammed," said Khoabane.
Khoabane said the headman fled and called police.
"By the time police got there, the man was dead, having shot himself in the head," said Khoabane.
