Man kills wife, shoots himself

Johannesburg - A 45-year-old man allegedly killed his wife before attempting to shoot and kill himself in Mthatha using a 9mm state pistol, Eastern Cape police said on Saturday.
"It appears that they had marital problems and the man decided to resort to this kind of action," police spokesperson Mzukisi Fatyela said.
Fatyela said the incident happened near the N2 on the outskirts of town.
He said the woman was taken to the Nelson Mandela Academic hospital with serious gunshot wounds but died on arrival.
"The man shot himself just below the chin and is in a serious condition at the hospital," Fatyela said.
He said it was doubtful that the man would survive.
Police were investigating the possibility that the man could be a police officer.
