2012-02-13 16:00

Johannesburg - A 49-year-old man handed himself over to police after allegedly killing a 19-year-old man in an argument over a beer, said KwaZulu-Natal police on Monday.

The man apparently stabbed Mthokozisi Mhlongo in the chest with a knife at about  20:30 on Sunday in KwaDabeka, Pinetown, outside Durban, said Captain Thulani Zwane.

Mhlongo died later on the scene.

Zwane said the man handed himself over to police later the same evening.

The man was expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Tuesday or Wednesday.

@ procold Well, the guy did hand himself volentarily over to the cops - that, at least displays a bit of common decency.

A beer. God help us all.

      Godfrey - 2012-02-13 17:00

Why beer is better than god. 10. No one will kill you for not drinking Beer. 9. Beer doesn’t tell you how to have sex. 8. Beer has never caused a major war. 7. They don’t force Beer on minors who can’t think for themselves. 6. When you have a Beer, you don’t knock on people’s doors trying to give it away. 5. Nobody’s ever been burned at the stake, hanged, or tortured over his brand of Beer. 4. You don’t have to wait 2000+ years for a second Beer. 3. There are laws saying Beer labels can’t lie to you. 2. You can prove you have a Beer. 1. If you’ve devoted your life to Beer, there are groups to help you stop. Seems though that you could get killed in an argument over a beer.

I wish people would address their issue with the crime rather than a whole race? Saying "savages" paints everyone with the same brush and widens the divides between us. Address the MAN, what he did was wrong, but don't put us all in the same pot. Having said that RIP big guy, senseless killing of a young man yet to live life. This coming from a 25 year old, who has lived a lot of life either.

  • Carlo - 2012-02-13 22:15

  • reza.daniels1 - 2012-02-14 10:14

And that is why alcohol should be banned. The benefits (none really except some "social enjoyment") is far outweighed by the negatives (which I could write an essay about but just off the top of my head - rape, murder, MVAs', spousal abuse, sleeping with strangers whose HIV status is unknown, pregnancy, foetul alcohol syndrome, financial hardship, strokes, assault, abusive behaviour, public nuisance, urinating in public, liver disease etc etc etc....

Know how he feels - I have felt like killing over beer very often: shoddy service slow in bringing my beer; shoddy service bringing me warm beer on a hot day; shoddy service telling me that there is no beer.

  • kazlynn - 2012-02-20 15:59

Oh dear, and they say smoking kills!!
