Cape Town - An alleged serial rapist-killer facing 50 charges appeared briefly in the Cape High Court on Monday.
Prosecutor Linda Galloway merely asked Judge Abie Motala to postpone the case to May 2, but gave no reasons or details of the charges.
Jimmy Maketta allegedly conducted a reign of terror last year among workers in the Philippi farming community.
During preliminary proceedings in Wynberg magistrate's court, Maketta was sent for observation to the Valkenberg Psychiatric hospital, where psychiatrists assessed him as fit to stand trial.
At his final appearance in the Wynberg court, Maketta faced 22 charges of rape, 13 of murder, five of housebreaking, four of assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, three of attempted murder, two of kidnapping and one of aggravated armed robbery.
Police initially arrested another suspect, who was released after questioning.
