Man on run after raping daughter

Bethal - A 38-year-old man accused of raping his 12-year-old daughter is on the run.

The girl reported that she had been raped in her room in Bethal, Mpumalanga, at about 23:00 on January 2.

"It is alleged that the suspect had been drinking when he started making sexual comments about the girl's body.

"The victim says the suspect offered her coke mixed with beer, but she refused it and then went to bed," said Bethal police spokesperson Colonel Mukhulunyelwa Mtungwa on Monday.

A few minutes later, the suspect is reported to have entered the girl's room and raped her before running away.

"The child phoned her mother who lives and works in another town. The mother then phoned the child's grandmother who reported the incident to the police," said Mtungwa.

The child is now living with her grandmother.
