Cape Town - Western Cape police are on the hunt for a Hanover Park man after his 2-year-old daughter was allegedly beaten to death.

Christopher Williams from Halmans Walk is wanted for questioning after the toddler was declared dead at the Hanover Park Day Hospital on Friday.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel André Traut said a murder case had been opened.

"It is not known why and how the child was beaten,” he said.

The suspect fled the scene and has yet to be arrested.

According to a police source, the post mortem found that the child had been severely beaten.

“It was so brutal the child was swollen from the face to her legs,” the source said.

The suspect is alleged to be a gangster and is assumed to be in hiding somewhere in Hanover Park.

Anyone with information on the man’s whereabouts is urged to contact Sergeant Basson on 073 1761 730 or the Philippi police station on 021 690 1500.
