Johannesburg - A man is in a critical condition after he was pinned down under his burning motorcycle at Kya Sands, Johannesburg, on Sunday, paramedics said.
ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said when paramedics arrived at River Street and Malibongwe Drive where the accident occurred, they found the man in his early 20s, with burns to more than half of his body at 10:00.
"It is understood that the man's bike and a flatbed truck, transporting tiles, collided with each other at the intersection."
According to bystanders at the scene, the bike caught alight and pinned the man underneath it a few metres away from the truck, said Vermaak.
He said another driver who saw the incident ran and pulled the burning bike off him and extinguished the flames.
The motorcyclist was severely burnt and put on advanced life support and stabilised before being airlifted to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.
The cause of the accident would be investigated.
