Johannesburg - A Boksburg man scared off his would-be hijackers as they waited for him outside his cluster home on Thursday night, police said on Friday.
"The complainant saw a white BMW parked in the driveway, he took out his firearm and waited. An armed man from the BMW got out of the vehicle and walked towards the man.
"A shootout ensued and the would-be hijackers were chased away," said police spokesperson, Sergeant Safa Lengene.
Boksburg police have warned motorists to be vigilant when entering their premises, even if they live in a cluster house.
This is the third incident where the same modus operandi has been used and police appeal to residents in Boksburg to look out for a white BMW and a maroon BMW.
"These two cars have been seen at a number of incidents," said Lengene.
"We urge residents to be vigilant when entering their driveways and to drive to the nearest police station if they see a suspicious looking vehicle."
Anyone with information can contact Sergeant Lengene on 079 694 6503.
