Johannesburg - A 55-year-old man opened fire on three armed robbers who had hijacked his vehicle in Kew, Johannesburg, on Thursday.
The man missed, but the robbers fled after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Inspector Moses Maphakela said the men robbed and hijacked the man while he was driving from his work premises at 11:30.
"The armed men robbed him of his cellphone and wallet, ordered him to get out of the car and drove off with his 4x4 Colt," said Maphakela.
"The victim had a revolver around his waist and shot at the suspects four times as they drove off."
The driver then lost control and drove into a wall.
Maphakela said the three split up and ran from the crashed vehicle.
No one was injured.
