Polokwane - A homeowner shot and wounded a plain clothes policeman
who arrived to investigate a robbery at his house - apparently because he looked similar to one of the robbers.
Constable Judy Lekhola, 25, was shot after he arrived at the
house in Sterpark, Limpopo, in an unmarked police vehicle earlier this week,
reported Beeld.
The 41-year-old homeowner shot the Lekhola in the shoulder.
Earlier that evening, the homeowner had been the victim of a
robbery. R8 000 had been stolen from him by two men who then fled in a car.
Two police officers, also in plain clothes, were busy taking
a statement from the victim when another two plain clothes officers arrived and
the robbery victim pulled out a pistol and shot Lekhola in the shoulder.
The homeowner was arrested and would appear on a charge of
attempted murder on Friday.
A police spokesperson said Lekhola was part of a special
crime prevention unit in the city that didn’t wear uniforms.
He is reportedly in a critical condition in hospital.
