Man shot dead in hijacking

Johannesburg - A 30-year-old man was shot dead during a hijacking in Meyerton in Johannesburg on Friday night, paramedics said.

"Paramedics arrived at the Meyerton fire station and found a man was shot through the heart and right leg during an alleged hijacking by three men around 20:00. He was unresponsive," said ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.

Vermaak said the man's family had rushed him to the fire station after the hijacking. Paramedics attempted advanced life support resuscitation but it was unsuccessful.

"The hijack victim was subsequently pronounced dead on scene," he said.
