Man shot in attempted hijacking

2010-10-05 09:00
Johannesburg - A man was shot and critically wounded during an apparent attempted hijacking in Robertsham, Johannesburg, paramedics said on Tuesday.

"The man was pulling into his driveway when he was approached by unknown gunman. A shot was fired and he was critically wounded in the upper leg," said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.

"It appears that the robbers fled when the man's wife pulled in behind his car just after he was shot."

The shooting happened at around 19:45 on Monday evening.

"When Netcare 911 paramedics arrived they found the patient lying in a pool of blood totally unresponsive. Medics fervently started to resuscitate the critically wounded man and after placing him on a ventilator and giving him intravenous fluid, the patient started to respond positively."

He was taken to Garden City hospital for further treatment.
