Johannesburg - A landlord was stabbed to death during a heated argument with a tenant in Soweto, Gauteng police said on Friday.

"He was struck with a sharp object last night [on Thursday] and sustained an open wound to his neck," said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele.

He died at the scene.

The tenant ran off but his wife remained at the scene. She was arrested by police.

Makhubele said the argument started after the owner gave the couple notice to vacate the property.
