Cape Town - A man is threatening to jump from the 23rd floor of the Cape Town Civic Centre, the city’s disaster risk management said on Thursday.

A team is on the scene and councillors are trying to get the man to come down, spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes told the People’s Post.

Solomons-Johannes added that the officials didn’t know how the man got to the 23rd floor and could not yet ascertain if the man was a council employee or member of the public.

The man is reportedly throwing items from where he is sitting, and negotiators are currently handling the situation.

A massive crowd is said to have gathered on the ground near the building.

More details will follow as this is a developing story.
