Johannesburg - A man was shot and wounded in a shoot-out
with police after a car chase in Norwood on Thursday morning, said Gauteng
police.
The shooting came after police suspicions were raised by a
Nissan 1400 bakkie without a canopy, loaded with lots of bags in Orange Grove, said
Constable Thabo Malatji.
"Police tried to stop the vehicle along the Louis Botha
Avenue but the driver could not stop. He sped off skipping a red robot,"
said Malatji.
A chase ensued until at the corner of Ivy Road and Sidonia
Avenue in Norwood where one of the three men jumped out of the vehicle and
began shooting at police.
Police shot back and the man was shot in both legs and
buttocks.
His accomplices drove away after they had established that
he was shot, leaving him behind.
He was taken to a local hospital under police guard.
Two firearms - a revolver and a 9mm Star pistol - were
recovered at the scene.
Police believe the men might have been involved in a house
robbery in the area.
A search for the two other men was launched.
