Mandela death crash driver sorry
Johannesburg - The driver in the car crash that killed ex-president Nelson Mandela's great granddaughter voiced regret on Sunday at her death and asked that the family be left to grieve in private.
"I deeply regret the loss of our little Zeni," Sizwe Mankanzana said in a statement issued through Mandela's foundation.
"I ask that your thoughts and prayers be with her family and friends during this very difficult time."
Thirteen-year-old Zenani Mandela was killed in a car that overturned in Johannesburg last Thursday as it took her home from a concert in Soweto on the eve of the World Cup's opening ceremony.
Nelson Mandela had been due to attend the opener, but he cancelled after news of the death.
The foundation said that Mankanzana was the son of the partner of Nelson Mandela's oldest daughter, also called Zenani.
